Reproductive carrier
screening
Planning on having a child? We've partnered with Eugene Labs1 to offer free shipping within Australia on their Core carrier reproductive screening test.
Eugene's at-home test checks to see if you're likely to pass on common genetic conditions, so you can make informed choices about your family's future, and your child's health.
As long as you're eligible under the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS), this offer means you won't need to pay for anything.
This offer isn't just for Bupa members either – anyone who's eligible can order2.

What the test
looks for
Eugene's Core reproductive screening service identifies if you're a carrier for any of the 3 most common genetic diseases in Australia:
- Cystic fibrosis (CF)
- Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA)
- & Fragile X syndrome (FXS)
You can run tests either pre-conception, or in early pregnancy.3 Reproductive carrier screening is optional, and helps you make informed decisions if you're planning on having a child.

How it works
- Use the link on this page to order a Core reproductive carrier screening test through Eugene.
- Eugene checks if you're covered under the MBS as you order. If you are, Eugene sends you an at-home test kit.
- When your kit arrives, follow the instructions to collect a saliva sample.
- Post your kit back to Eugene. Blua covers your postage.
- When your results are ready, consult with one of Eugene's genetic counsellors to understand your report. With your consent, Eugene can also send your results to your regular GP or specialist.
Is this test right
for you?
If you're planning on having a child, Eugene's Core carrier screening helps you understand if you're likely to pass on one of the 3 most commonly inherited genetic diseases in Australia. If you're already pregnant, talk to your doctor to find out if this test is right for you.
Eugene's Core reproductive screening service is only for people whose assigned sex at birth is female. If results show that person's a carrier, Eugene will send another kit for the other biological parent to see if they're also a carrier, free of charge.
This is because the chances of passing a genetic condition on to a child depends on the genetics of both biological parents.
Depending on your ethnic background or family history, it's possible you might benefit more from Eugene's Comprehensive reproductive carrier screening test – which is available for a fee.
